Unacceptable Nudity

Unacceptable Nudity is a blog about the Art, Sex and Censorship Project. The blog includes hundreds of works of nude and erotic art. While there were 10,000 images accepted for inclusion in Art, Sex and Censorship, there were also thousands of others from the archives that were just not good enough. Many of those works of art, deemed unacceptable for the high standards of the project, were still of interest, so they wound up in this blog. In addition, Jeff Booth explains the themes of these paintings and what they meant to viewers at the time, and why using that particular theme allowed the artist to get away with nudity and sexuality. Jeff Booth also describes many of the techniques used to restore the images, and he explains the many difficulties of trying to make paintings hundreds of years old look like they have just been painted.
